The next software update for Satio is now avaliable. Timing on the update is however different for different markets and operator branded versions. The first ones should start to come up this weekend and then continue over the coming week. However it might differ slightly between markets as some kits might need approval from operators and can therefore take some more time, still I would expect most versions of Satio to have the new software available in latest a few weeks from now.

List of Highlights:

• Support for WVGA video recording – The already great video recording will be enhanced to fit the wide screen format and hence resolution is also slightly increased to 864 * 480 pixles. (the preset size will still be VGA, user has to change to get WVGA)
• Upload of pictures to Facebook – It will be possible to upload pictures directly from the picture menu you have on the home screen or from the Media UI.
• Youtube video uploading – It will be possible to upload videos to Youtube directly from the Media UI.
• Conversational messaging – “Conversations” will be nicely integrated in the messaging menu in order to easily find and inspire to more conversations with your friends.
• DLNA support – The new software will support DLNA media server for easy transfer of audio and still pictures. (Note that video is not supported)
• UI improvements – On top of above, several minor UI improvements have been done in order to optimize the user experience.
• The Facebook application that is now available on PlayNow for free download will be included in the sw.

Today almost the end of working hours in our lab, surfing the net, drinking coffee and waiting for the bus to get there, i found an interesting subject published on the site developer Android and Android Market, a list of critical applications to leave the phone with Android operating system much better and full of features interesting! At the end of the text were included links to download that should be used in Android, and take the User directly to Android Market.
Applications with the names in bold are currently installed on my apparatus, and eventually I will make a new list with my applications and games that are not listed in this post. There is application to virtually everything that most users need in a good Smartphone, which is a sign of evolution of the Google platform phones and Smartphones.

“Hey guys and girls, looks like Japan and Europe get to update their Walkman X firmware which is said to improve online browsing (is anyone surfing the net on your X?):

This firmware update improves the following performance:

• Displaying and navigating Web sites will be improved.

Note
“NetFront” browser installed in your device will be upgraded with this update. After the upgrade, the browser will not display Thai language fonts anylonger. If you want to be able to display Thai language fonts, do not perform this update.

Let’s hope we get the same treatment in the US soon, as I understand it is a holiday season and Sony software engineers just need to tweak the installer to work on the US models. When I tried using the firmware upgrade from a European website, it does not recognize my Walkman model (NWZ-X1051/1061) as it is intended for NWZ-X1050/1060 models (even though the software agreement lists all the US legal language and the installer is for X1000 series).

Anyways, the good news is Content Transfer software is at version 1.3 now and you can get it here and install it without any problems on your English speaking VAIOs, Lenovos, Dells  and whatever else you are using.
